A year has passed since the end of support for the Windows 7 operating system, beloved by many. Despite all Microsoft’s arguments in favor of more modern versions of the OS, millions of users this year are still not updated.
Researchers, in consultation with analysts, have come to the conclusion that today approximately 200 million users ignore the end of support for Windows 7 and continue to use their favorite operating system.
To get an idea of the number of computers with an outdated operating system, the researchers took as a basis the analytical data of the US authorities, which record the systems of visitors to government sites over the past 90 days.
For example, in 2019, the US authorities received the following data: 75.8% used Windows 10, 18.9% – Windows 7, 4.6% – Windows 8.x. By December 2020, the share of Windows 10 has grown significantly – it was 87.8%, and Windows 7 lost a little – 8.5%.
By the way, the already cult Windows XP is now virtually impossible to find among the visitors of US government resources. Thus, over a year, more than one hundred million computers were either upgraded or disposed of.
NetMarketShare analysts give a similar ratio, but slightly different numbers: at the end of 2020, the share of Windows 10 was 74%, and Windows 7 – 21.7%.
Based on these data, we can conclude that about 200 million users still do not want to change Windows 7 to newer versions of the operating system. In principle, they can be understood, since objectively this is one of the most stable versions of Windows.
