Microsoft Teams Improves Audio, Captions, and Clicks

Microsoft Teams is constantly improving its communication platform with new features. This month, the platform has added several improvements to the meeting experience, including audio, captions, and clicks.

Audio for Natural Conversations

The platform has added a new “Spatial sound” feature that adjusts the participant’s sound level to the position in which the person is on your screen. This helps make conversations more natural, increase the sense of audio presence, and make it easier to follow the conversation when multiple people are talking.
To ensure that the function is active during the next meeting, turn on spatial sound under the heading ‘Devices’ in your settings. It is currently not possible to use the function with a wireless headset.

Clearer Additional Information During Meetings

Microsoft has also released an improvement for the Together view, in which you put participants together in your screen by, for example, placing them in a stand. The new function allows you to place an overview bar next to the participants. The bar provides, among other things, the name of the participant, information when the microphone is muted and shows the hand when someone wants to ask a question.
Additionally, a new update gives a meeting organizer the power to automatically push all participants to the Together view.
Finally, there are more personalization options for captions. A meeting does not automatically use captions, that is the choice of the organizer. It can be useful if people take notes during the meeting and therefore sometimes miss short parts of the meeting. Via the function you can read what has just been said in the meeting. Enhancements allow users to adjust the color and size of the text to their own liking, as well as the position the feature gets on the screen.

Features That Save Clicks

The communication platform is also used to keep team members informed via chat messages. If you are tagged in a message or receive a response to your own message, Teams will provide an extra notification in your activity center. A new update now makes it possible to get rid of all notifications in this center in one click. That saves users time.
In addition, you can make the contact list clearer, in the style of the communication platform Slack. In the compact version of your chat list, Teams removes the preview of the latest message from the overview.
The trend to opt for the path of least resistance extends the meeting platform to the function to pass on your work location. From now on you can easily change this throughout the day via your profile picture.
