T-Mobile Expands Roaming Services in the North Sea

T-Mobile is further expanding its roaming services in the North Sea by collaborating with Tampnet. This should make mobile telephony and data traffic at sea more attractive than satellite or VHF services.

T-Mobile Customers Benefit from Network Expansion

The collaboration gives T-Mobile customers more communication options. As a result, they save on the high costs that have to be incurred when they have to use satellite or VHF connections for their communication at sea. Offshore services, wind farms and commercial and pleasure shipping, which navigate Europe’s busiest shipping route, can particularly benefit from the network expansion. Every T-Mobile subscriber can use the roaming options, the telecom operator says.

Expansion of Existing Capacity

T-Mobile itself has had permits for 5G coverage in the 700 MHz frequency on the North Sea since 2021. To provide 4G/5G coverage, additional antennas have now been placed on land towards the North Sea, but the T-Mobile installation points at various offshore wind farms have also been expanded.
In turn, Tampnet also has extensive 4G/5G coverage in the North Sea. By combining both networks now, capacity will be expanded, according to T-Mobile. This at affordable rates.
T-Mobile is committed to providing its customers with the best possible communication options. By expanding its roaming services in the North Sea, the telecom operator is making sure that its customers can stay connected at sea, while saving on the high costs of satellite or VHF connections. The collaboration with Tampnet is expected to provide 4G/5G coverage to offshore services, wind farms and commercial and pleasure shipping, which navigate Europe’s busiest shipping route. This will help to make mobile telephony and data traffic at sea more attractive than ever before.
