Taiwanese hardware giant MSI is being blackmailed by a newly formed ransomware gang who claim to have stolen their source code. The gang, known as “Money Message”, is demanding a payment of $4 million within five days, or they will publish 1.5 terabytes of stolen MSI data. The data allegedly includes the framework for MSI’s BIOS firmware, as well as private keys that can be used to sign and install custom modules. Zscaler and BleepingComputer have both drawn attention to this new gang, who are known to perform double-extortion attacks. BleepingComputer has contacted MSI several times in an attempt to verify the ransom report, but has not received a response so far.
