Phishing and malware sites with a .nl domain will often be taken offline within 24 hours in 2022, according to the manager of the .nl domain SIDN in their annual report for the past year.
In the fourth and final quarter of 2022, 70.5 percent of all reports of .nl domain names used for phishing or malware distribution were taken offline within 24 hours. In addition, 563 domain names were made inactive throughout the year after extensive research.
Most of the .nl domain names taken offline were used for web injections, phishing sites, and web shells. Unfortunately, the average time it took to take rogue websites offline increased to 26 hours in 2022, up from 19 hours in 2021. SIDN does not indicate why this average duration has increased in their annual report.
