Flipper One: Work on Advanced Version of Hacker Multitool is Already Underway
Yesterday, Pavel Zhovner, one of the authors of the hacker multitool Flipper Zero, confirmed in an interview with “Hacker” that work on the second and more advanced version of the multitool, Flipper One, is already underway.
In 2020, Flipper Zero was announced as the entry-level entry into the pentester tool line, with a lighter and more compact version built on STM32 and focused on “pentesting access control systems, radios and remotes.” Flipper One was planned as a more advanced version for attacks on wired and wireless networks.
In an interview published yesterday, Pavel Zhovner told Danya Shepovalov that it is too early to write off the advanced version of the multitool, since active work on Flipper One is already underway.
“We are currently working on Flipper One, but we do not quite understand what it should be. In general, we want a fat combine with FPGA and SDR, in which all protocols can be determined programmatically, but so far there are doubts whether they will buy a device for $ 300-500. So the project is in active R&D, but there is no understanding of important parts yet. For example, they did not choose a Wi-Fi module, because all existing chips suitable for attacks are already outdated. You may have to sponsor the development of your driver. In general, we will see,” Zhovner said.
Flipper Zero: Record-Breaking Kickstarter
In 2020, before the record-breaking Kickstarter (which eventually raised nearly $5 million), Flipper Zero was announced as the entry-level entry into the pentester tool line. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much news about Flipper One since then. Judging by the posts on Reddit (1, 2), users have already begun to forget that One was announced at all, and doubted that this tool would see the light of day.
At the end of June, TechCrunch wrote that in 2022 the developers of Flipper One planned to sell devices for a total of $ 25,000,000, and in the current 2023, the company plans to earn $ 80,000,000 for its gadgets.
Although the company did not disclose exactly how many devices have been sold to date, journalists have calculated that we are talking about 300,000 Flipper Zero, since one device costs $ 169.
Increasing Production and Sales
In an interview, Pavel said that the company currently produces about 40,000 devices per month and sells about the same or a little less. According to him, he would like to increase sales (perhaps by increasing production). And although TechCrunch wrote that Flipper is going to sell for $80 million this year, Pavel hopes that he will be able to reach $100 million.
The active work on Flipper One is a promising sign for the future of the hacker multitool. With the increasing production and sales of Flipper Zero, the developers of Flipper One are sure to make a splash in the pentesting tool market.
