A build of Windows Core Polaris for developers leaked online, confirming once again that Microsoft is actively working on a separate operating system for low-end devices.
To clarify for those who do not know: it has long been rumored that Microsoft is secretly working on a special version of Windows, code named “Windows Core OS”. The main task of this platform is to adapt Windows to different devices: smartphones, computers with two screens, devices for collaboration, etc.
With Windows Core OS, Microsoft originally created two forks of Windows: Andromeda (for mobile devices), Polaris (for more familiar laptops). The Polaris version was created for low-power devices, it was she who leaked to the Network.
“This is PolarisOS, a special version of Windows Core OS designed for desktops and laptops. This image is quite early, so nothing beyond the OS itself was included. The build comes without a shell – you need an ARM device and drivers to load it, ” writes Scamdisk, who reported the leak.
