Microsoft 365 Insiders can now access Gmail on the Outlook app. The integration also includes the Google Calendar feature. Insiders of the Outlook app on Windows have had the option to switch to the updated version for some time now. If you don’t like the new design, you can quickly revert to the classic version of the app with a toggle.
Microsoft and Google’s email services have slight differences, so the integration isn’t entirely straightforward. For instance, Outlook uses folders to organize emails, while Gmail users can label messages individually. Labeled messages don’t automatically get separate folders in Outlook, so the clarity of the Gmail inbox won’t survive the transition to Microsoft’s app without workarounds.
Microsoft released the preview version of the new Outlook app in 2022. At the time, we anticipated Gmail support to be coming soon, so it took a while.
