Microsoft 365 adds new features to monitor employee activity

Microsoft has added new features to Office Suite 365 that enable organizations to monitor the activities of their employees.

In particular, the Workplace Analytics feature has been added to the MyAnalytics service of the Microsoft 365 suite. While MyAnalytics collects data on the resources used by employees, Workplace Analytics provides a more complete picture of their work habits and calculates their productivity rating.

Statistics are provided in two categories – Employee Experience and Technology Experience. Among other things, the first category shows the percentage of employees who save content to the Microsoft cloud and exchange files with external users. The second category provides statistics on, for example, how much work time workers lose when their computers are booted from traditional hard drives rather than SSDs.

In terms of employee data, Workplace Analytics also shows how many days each individual employee sent emails and messages to Yammer, used chats and news channels. It also displays the number of days that he cross-referenced his emails to other email addresses. Employee names, group memberships, and locations are displayed by default. Anonymization of this data is available as an option.

While statistics on employee video camera use and the time they shared their screens during video conferences are provided anonymously, they can only be obtained from data collected separately. Administrators can view employee statistics without notifying them.
