Ransomware group Lockbit has made 100 GB of data from the Brabant care provider Joris Zorg public. It is not yet known what exact information this concerns.
According to a statement from the care institution for the elderly and the vulnerable, which has five branches in North Brabant, the attack occurred in December 2020. During this incident, data of clients and employees were stolen. The exact data has not been disclosed. Lockbit has now started publishing this data on the dark web.
Joris Zorg has reported the security incident to the Dutch Data Protection Authority and has also informed the affected clients and employees. These individuals will now be warned again by the healthcare institution and kept informed about the consequences via a special webpage.
Lockbit has recently targeted several Dutch organizations. The KNVB has also been affected by the ransomware group. It is believed that the football association has either paid or is negotiating the ransom payment of more than one million euros. The attack has been removed from the cybercriminals’ website, according to Tweakers.
This serves as a warning to other organizations that could be targeted by Lockbit.
