Intel to Invest $25 Billion in New Chip Factory in Israel
Intel is expanding its chip production capacity outside of the Asian region as part of its IDM 2.0 strategy. The recently announced investment in a chip factory in the Israeli city of Kiryat Gat is worth about $25 billion (22.9 billion euros), according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel. This includes a previously announced $10 billion investment by Intel from 2021.
Intel’s Investment in Tower Semiconductor
Intel had previously announced that it wanted to acquire the Israeli chip maker Tower Semiconductor for $5.4 billion. This is in addition to the investment in the new chip factory in Kiryat Gat.
Intel’s Investment in Poland
Intel is also working hard to increase its production capacity in other countries. Last week, the chip giant announced that it would build a chip factory in Wroclaw, Poland, for 4.2 billion euros. This is in addition to the investment in the new chip factory in Kiryat Gat and the acquisition of Tower Semiconductor.
Intel’s investments in chip production outside of the Asian region are part of its IDM 2.0 strategy. The chip giant is investing heavily in chip production in Israel and Poland, with the total investment amounting to $25 billion. This is expected to help Intel increase its production capacity in other countries and reduce its reliance on the Asian region.
