Last week a hacker attack was carried out on Manchester United football club . The club then tried to reassure everyone, including investors, with a statement: “We have taken prompt action to contain the attack and are working with expert consultants to investigate the incident. The club’s media channels, including the website and application, were not affected. Now there is no information about the leakage of personal data of our fans and customers. “

The scammers have made a demand for the English club: they expect a transfer of several million pounds. According to the Daily Mail, in reality, the club assesses the situation as “potentially catastrophic.” The criminals threaten to leak information into the network that could hit the football club. The UK’s National Cyber Security Center has already said it is helping the club solve the problem.

For these funds, the hackers promise to tell where the weaknesses are in the security system. And they guarantee that all data is deleted and not made public.

Last month, the US Treasury announced that any organizations responding to ransom demands for hackers on their list risk a $ 20 million fine.
Another fine United can receive in the UK – in the case of evidence of a violation of data protection fans. The size of the penalty from the UK Information Office (ICO) is up to £ 18 million.
