Criminals stole more than $ 8 million from the founder of the traffic flow of decentralized financiers (DeFi) Nexus Mutual Xue Kapa.
According to a post from Nexus Mutual, the funds were withdrawn on Monday, December 14, as a result of Karp’s wallet hack. The hacker managed to remotely install a compromised version of MetaMask and transfer NXM tokens to his address. The hacker received 370,000 NXM (approximately $ 8 million) and has already begun converting tokens into ether (ETH).
Hugh Karp described the attack as “a very good trick” and “next level stuff.” He also said that the hacker would have trouble cashing out such a large amount of NXM, and said: “If you return NXM in full, we will stop all investigations and I will give you a reward of $ 300,000.”
It is worth noting that the number of NXM stolen accounts for approximately 6% of all tokens in circulation. Since the attack, the cost of NXM has dropped by 17%.
