Embraer, a major Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, was targeted by a cyberattack that could result in theft of sensitive data.
According to company representatives, the cybercriminals had access “only to the company’s archival environment,” but the aircraft construction conglomerate did not reveal what information was stolen.
Sources familiar with the situation told About Globo that Embraer had to shut down most of its servers and some operations were temporarily unavailable. According to sources, the hackers demanded a ransom in cryptocurrencies from the company. The company itself declined to comment on the matter.
As a result of the cyber attack, all employees of the company who switched to a remote mode of work could not gain access to the systems. At the time, Embraer’s IT department informed employees that the problem was related to system instability, not a hacker attack.
Embraer is currently investigating the incident and is trying to assess if there are any implications for its business and third parties.
