Sony’s chip division has invested in Raspberry Pi, aiming to provide developers with better access to edge AI tools. The amount of the investment has not been disclosed. This move will give developers of the Raspberry Pi platform more access to AI tools in edge environments, as well as access to the large community that uses and further develops the Raspberry Pi computers.
The Raspberry Pi computer is a widely used platform for developing Internet of Things (IoT) solutions that reside at the edge of corporate networks. As part of Sony’s closer involvement with the Raspberry Pi platform, the edge AI sensor platform AITRIOS has been integrated into the minicomputer. This development platform enables AI models to run on data from smart cameras and other sensors in edge and low power environments.
AITRIOS ensures that the large amounts of data generated by these cameras and sensors are processed locally, rather than in an external cloud environment, reducing latency and making it easier to feed the data into AI models. This integration should give developers in different market segments more opportunities for powerful edge AI capabilities, leading to new and promising AI-based edge applications.
