Chip machine manufacturer ASML has a lot of money left over for 13 homes in Veldhoven. The company would have paid almost twice as much per house as the WOZ value, according to Omroep Brabant. The parties involved were reportedly extremely satisfied with the mutual contact during the negotiations.
The residents do not have to move until the end of 2026, although almost everyone had already found a new home. ASML can start its expansion plans before then, as part of the backyards will be used to create a new road between the tennis courts at the back and the houses.
The agreement originated with a resident. One of the homeowners questioned whether it still made sense to renovate due to the continued growth of neighboring ASML. The parties reached an agreement amicably within a few months and the residents left voluntarily.
ASML has made substantial investments for the homes: at least one of the homes has already cost more than a million euros, while the most recent WOZ value is 606,000 euros. “People also need to start something new in a comfortable way,” said Teun Wartenbergh, director of real estate at ASML. The company is engaged in several construction projects, such as a construction project on the Eindhoven University of Technology campus that should provide space for more than 500 researchers. It also opened the ASML Academy on the grounds of Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) and an office in Den Bosch two months ago, with space for hundreds of workplaces.
ASML appears to be bucking the global trends currently taking place in the tech industry. For example, Intel recorded historic losses in the first quarter. However, like the American chip giant, ASML sees opportunities for the future, given its well-filled order book.
