Akamai has announced new cloud services that customers who use Connected Cloud can count on for lower and more predictable costs. As a major player in content delivery, Akamai’s technology is used by well-known services such as Hulu and BBC iPlayer for video streaming. On the occasion of the American NAB 2023 (National Association of Broadcasters conference), the company has announced new features for Connected Cloud.
The innovation in the service is the advanced support of applied Common Media Client Data (CMCD), which allows Akamai to process playback data returned by video streaming devices. This means that video content can make intelligent use of pre-fetching, predicting what the user will watch later and loading it in advance, thus speeding up the start up of a video stream and preventing buffering. In addition to these benefits for the user, stream providers receive more behavioral data from these users.
Another new feature allows companies to “stitch” location- and time-specific content within a stream, allowing them to adhere to local restrictions on violent or rights-related content.
Akamai’s new cloud services offer customers lower and more predictable costs, as well as advanced features that enable intelligent pre-fetching, faster streaming, and more behavioral data for stream providers. These features also allow companies to adhere to local restrictions on content.
