Cisco Acquires Identity Threat Detection and Response Startup Oort

Cisco has announced its acquisition of Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR) startup Oort. The technology will be added to Cisco Security Cloud and the IAM and XDR portfolios, although no financial details have been disclosed.
The move is intended to better protect companies’ existing Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems against hacking attacks, which have become increasingly common in recent years.

Oort’s Platform

Oort’s platform provides a form of antivirus protection for IAM systems. To do this, it collects telemetry data from the IAM systems used and scans this data for malicious activity.
In addition, the tool checks the system data for misconfigurations, to prevent chances of attacks in the first place. It checks for security vulnerabilities and applies other predictive identity analytics. The Oort platform uses the information to automatically detect deviations and breaches, as well as other attacks such as brute-force attacks.
The platform then enables administrators to stop these attacks with just a few clicks. For example, through a feature that allows administrators to quickly log out of accounts that display malicious behavior. It can also temporarily suspend accounts when necessary.

Integration into Cisco Security Cloud and IAM-XDR Portfolios

Cisco will integrate Oort’s technology into Cisco Security Cloud, as well as the IAM security and XDR portfolios. Furthermore, Cisco also wants to benefit from the Oort integrations with other suppliers, such as Google, Microsoft, Okta and Auth0.
