Drivers of Android-powered cars will soon be able to do more with their infotainment systems. In many cases, running an app is already possible via an Android phone, but now many applications are also getting a real native version for cars, according to Google in a blog post.
The first vehicles to support the newly created applications will come from Polestar, which was one of the first brands to have Google support. Google expects the number of supported cars to nearly double this year, with up to 200 million cars potentially benefiting from the new version of Android Auto. Google is working with partners to bring the best of your phone to your car, including collaboration apps such as Teams and Zoom, so drivers can stay productive on the road.
In addition, Google is introducing more entertainment options. While watching YouTube on the road may not be the safest option, Google suggests watching a movie while waiting for someone. This won’t be much different from watching YouTube on your phone.
A more exciting integration is with Waze, which allows drivers to quickly find EV stations, avoid crowds, and be aware of road closures.
