The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Agency (CISA) and the US Intelligence Community (ODNI) admitted Russia’s involvement in a hacker attack on US federal agencies. The findings are presented in a joint statement by the intelligence services.
“The source of the targeted sustained threat is likely to come from Russia and is responsible for the vast majority or all of the recently detected cyber attacks against both government and non-government networks,” the text says.
A task force set up to investigate the breach estimates that fewer than 10 government agencies and about 18,000 users of Solar Winds’ Orion program in the public and private sectors were targeted. The purpose of the hack, according to the intelligence services, was to collect intelligence.
