A recent firmware update for the Surface Duo and Duo 2 smartphones has not been working properly. Users have reported that their phones randomly reboot or fail to boot up correctly. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is currently investigating it.
For the time being, users have been advised to periodically reboot their devices until the boot process is completed successfully.
There has been unrest surrounding the Surface Duo smartphones for some time. Microsoft had previously announced plans to launch a new Surface Duo smartphone with two screens, but this has since been scrapped in favor of a foldable Surface Duo with a single screen, which is expected to be released in 2021. Additionally, many employees working on the Surface Duo have been moved to another Android-based project. Microsoft will not be releasing Android 13 on the smartphone, but will instead focus on Android 14.
