Samsung representatives reported that as early as the end of July 2022, the company’s systems in the US were compromised. As the investigation showed, the attackers managed to steal the personal data of the company’s customers.
“At the end of July 2022, an unauthorized third party was able to obtain information from some Samsung systems in the US,” the company said in a statement. “About August 4, 2022, during an investigation, we determined that the personal information of some customers was compromised.”
It is reported that the hackers did not get their hands on social security numbers or bank card data, but they managed to get to the names of customers, their contact details, demographic information, dates of birth, as well as product registration information. In this case, in each case, the leaked data may differ.
The company emphasizes that third-party cybercriminalists and law enforcement agencies are involved in the investigation of the incident. Data on the exact number of victims is not yet available.
Samsung is already alerting affected customers to the incident and recommending that they check their accounts for suspicious activity and stay vigilant: don’t click on suspicious links in emails, don’t download suspicious attachments, and so on.
