AI Initiatives: EU Working on an AI Law to Impose Strict Rules
Over the past 8 to 10 months, new AI initiatives have sprung up like mushrooms. The arrival of ChatGPT and generative AI is causing disruption in the market. Texts, photos, videos, music and even voices can now be generated on the basis of large data sets. The disruption also creates fear of change and thus a greater call for regulation.
EU Regulation
It is now a given that most innovation comes from the United States and that Europe only plays a marginal role. What Europe is strong at, on the other hand, is regulating things. Devising rules so that new technology is used correctly and citizens are protected. For example, the AVG (GDPR) has caused a lot worldwide and many countries are now following the example of the EU.
Unlike GDPR, AI is much more about innovation. If you limit that too much, companies will no longer have the opportunity to develop it further, or to regulate themselves. Unlike other countries, the EU seems to want to go much further. It only wants to allow safe, non-discriminatory, environmentally friendly, explainable and transparent AI solutions on the European market. This raises a huge threshold and is therefore received with skepticism from the industry. This may bring the development of AI in Europe to a halt, with the result that Europe misses the boat. The development will not stop and put other countries ahead.
Prince Constantijn’s Response
Prince Constantijn has also responded that the way people look at AI is far too much on a negative axis. Only the disadvantages and dangers are considered, not what it can bring. In the UK, for example, they are working on the development of a number of points of view that must be followed operate, while in the EU they want to implement very strict rules with a fine system.

The European Union is working on an AI law to impose strict rules on the use of AI technology. This law is meant to protect citizens and ensure that AI is used responsibly. However, the industry is skeptical of the law as it raises a huge threshold and could potentially hinder the development of AI in Europe. Prince Constantijn has responded to this, saying that people tend to focus too much on the negative aspects of AI and not enough on the potential benefits.
