Alexander Brovko, 36, received a sentence for stealing personal data and financial information worth a total of more than $ 100 million.
According to the investigation, the cybercriminal has been running botnets for more than ten years. The court sentenced the attacker to eight years in prison for trading personal information and credentials from online banking. Brovko’s actions resulted in more than $ 100 million in losses.
The US Department of Justice claims that the defendant, from 2007 to 2019, acting in a common scheme with other cybercriminals, tried to sell data stolen by botnets. Among the victims of these cyberattacks, according to the US Department of Justice, were American citizens.
Brovko was also an active participant in several well-known online forums that served as a platform for Russian-speaking cybercriminals. It was Brovko who wrote the scripts that parsed botnet logs. With their help, attackers searched for and extracted certain data.
