Green hackers: hacktivists posted 2 TB of data from mining companies online. In this way they are trying to draw attention to the damage done to the environment.
Guacamaya hacktivists hacked into the systems of five mining companies and two government agencies in Central and South America, after which they stole 2 TB of data and leaked it to the network. According to the hackers, in this way they wanted to draw attention to the environmental situation in these regions.
The Guacamaya data was posted on the Enlace Hacktivista website, where hackers post their interesting findings. Among the stolen materials were emails from Ecuador’s state mining company, Guatemala’s Ministry of Natural Resources, Colombia’s hydrocarbon agency, and oil and mining companies in Brazil, Venezuela, Chile and Colombia.
Along with the data, Guacamaya released a touching statement: “In this way we want to achieve reparation, although we know that the harm done to the earth, its children and the dignity of the people is irreparable.”
