Dropbox Launches Dash, an AI-Based Universal Search and Summary Engine
Dropbox this week announced a new suite of AI-based features for its cloud storage and file sharing platform. “Dropbox Dash is an AI-based universal search engine that connects all your tools, content, and apps in one search bar,” the company explained in a blog post.
The new solution includes connectors to major platforms such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Outlook, and Salesforce. “Now you can skip those time-consuming tasks like switching apps to share content, join a meeting, and find a deck your teammate has shared,” Dropbox said.
Research from McKinsey shows that knowledge workers spend nearly 9 hours a week searching for files and content. In addition, research from RingCentral found that 69 percent of these employees spend up to 60 minutes a day navigating between apps. To solve the problem of “workplace chaos,” Dropbox decided to “build a tool that can help you spend less time searching and organizing all your content and more time doing your best work efficiently.”
What’s New
In addition to universal search, the Dropbox Dash browser extension includes additional features, the first of which is called Stacks. These are “smart collections” for the user’s links that provide a quick way to store, organize, and find URLs. Stacks provide a shareable, organizational layer for cloud content – similar to how files have folders and songs have playlists.
Another feature is the Home page. This dashboard allows the user to access Dash’s universal search, view Stacks, get shortcuts to recent work, and meet start rings. This makes it “easier to navigate your day and get back to your main work,” the company claims.
Dropbox says it’s just getting started with AI. In the near future, Dash will be able to answer questions and display relevant content using generative AI to parse a user’s information.
The Benefits of Dropbox Dash
Dropbox Dash is a powerful tool that can help knowledge workers save time and be more productive. With its universal search engine, users can quickly find the content they need without having to switch between apps. The Stacks feature provides a shareable, organizational layer for cloud content, while the Home page dashboard gives users quick access to their recent work.
In addition, Dash’s AI capabilities will make it even more powerful in the future. With its ability to answer questions and display relevant content, Dash will be able to help users find the information they need quickly and easily.
Overall, Dropbox Dash is a powerful tool that can help knowledge workers save time and be more productive. With its universal search engine, Stacks feature, and AI capabilities, Dash is sure to be a valuable addition to any organization’s workflow.
