Cisco continues to develop full-stack observability. The new Customer Digital Experience Monitoring service allows application and network administrators to gain insight into each other’s domains. This should lead to more informed decisions and better business outcomes, according to Cisco.
Full-stack observability is a term used by Cisco to describe the idea that all logs, metrics, and traces are combined in one place to monitor the health of an IT environment. Organizations can become overwhelmed by the amount and variety of data.
OpenTelemetry-based
The integration of Cisco AppDynamics and Cisco ThousandEyes allows for the convergence of traffic to and from applications and WAN (wide area network) traffic. The service consists of two-way traffic between these two applications. For example, IT personnel who manage applications and network administrators can easily view each other’s data without having to manage too much data.
The service is based on OpenTelemetry, which is supported by the CNCF and is now considered the unofficial standard for sending and collecting observability data. In other words, it is an essential component for achieving full-stack observability. Therefore, the integration of AppDynamics and ThousandEyes makes perfect sense.
Digital is more complex
“Our customers are striving to deliver the best possible digital experiences for their businesses. However, the simplification of digital experiences adds complexity to businesses,” said Liz Centoni, EVP, CSO, and GM of Applications at Cisco. “Customer Digital Experience Monitoring brings together our industry-leading application observability and our unparalleled network intelligence. As a result, customers can uncover all application and network dependencies that were previously not visible.”
