Apple Vision Pro: A New Way to Work
Tim Cook unveiled the Vision Pro at WWDC 2023, and the tech giant from Cupertino is launching an entirely new product line. The Vision Pro is a headset with a hefty price tag of $3499, but it packs a lot of advanced technology into a compact size. What can you do with it? Will it shake up the way we work?
Design and Technology
The Vision Pro has a striking appearance that follows the design choices of previous VR/AR players. The shape of the HMD (head-mounted display) is reminiscent of the Meta Quest Pro, and it is also closest to Apple’s headset in other areas. The Vision Pro contains the powerful Apple M2 in combination with a brand new R1 chip, which could process all sensors on board the headset within 12 milliseconds. That’s just over 83 Hz, although we haven’t heard from Apple yet how fast the internal display itself switches. We do know that it is a micro-OLED screen that comes out at approximately 4K per eye. In terms of battery life, we should expect 2 hours. The battery is connected to the Vision Pro via a cable and should be carried in a pocket.
There are no external controllers or sensors: your hands and eyes provide the control. According to tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, who was allowed to try out the Vision Pro for half an hour, the eye and hand tracking is by far the headset’s most impressive feature. However, he also states that it is quite a heavy device. Not too crazy since it uses high-quality materials and contains quite a few cameras, screens and chips. The most exceptional visual feature of the Vision Pro is undeniably the pass-through of the user’s eyes. As a Vision Pro wearer, you are not simply excluded from the outside world. If you look at someone through the pass-through cameras, your eyes can also be seen by the other person.
Modularity and Comfort
The Vision Pro offers modularity to ensure comfort for every user. There is an extensive range of unique face masks, headstraps and prescription lenses that can be ordered. Every individual should be given the opportunity to work comfortably with an Apple headset.
The Vision Pro is set to be released in 2024, and it has the potential to shake up the way we work. With its powerful technology, eye and hand tracking, and pass-through cameras, the Vision Pro could be the headset that revolutionizes the way we interact with the world.
